Mi casa es Su Casa!
Today, I would like to invite you to my new home, a house I truly and deeply fell in love with from the very first sight, a house that has become my inspiration, our own small paradise that brought so much happiness into our life in the Philippines.
When we were looking for a house to spend the winter in the Philippines, we saw a lot of options. A lot of them were very good, but none of them were perfect. It seemed like they were saying «you may stay here for a month or three, but at 12 am you have to check out as it is time for the new tenants to move in». They were buildings, not homes. My biggest wish was to wake up in happiness, harmony, and coziness with the first sun rays and enjoy honey sweet mangoes and fresh coconut juice for breakfast. I wanted the yearn to stay at home, instead of making up reasons and activities to leave the house.
But we found the one! We explored every square meter of the Panglao island riding our bikes, making a turn everywhere we could searching for the perfect one. This time, the trail lead us, we followed it, passing by every turn, small huts, little churches, and children playing in the streets. The path took us to the most beautiful house I have ever seen. Seeing it from afar, I could not believe my eyes: «Is this really true? It is a home, a real home that is inviting us». I accepted its silent invitation and entered its living room. All of a sudden, I felt like I materialized in the central square of a Mexican or Spanish town, with hand-made clay tiles on the floor, white walls with posters picturing corridas, a guitar hanging near the window with blue frames, and many other unique details that showed that everything was made with love. My biggest wish was to stay there, in Casa Santa Barbara.
Within a couple of days, my dream became a reality. Each day spent at Casa Santa Barbara was a Mise-en-scène in a movie, and I was the main actress. Everything in this house was worthy of being the perfect location for a short festival movie, and sometimes those scenes arose in my mind, making me create perfect outfits for each of them up to six times a day.
The house provided private access to the sea and of course, I could go swimming wearing a bikini, but then the scenes created in my mind would not be complete. One of the most beautiful scenes I imagined was when the warm rays of the evening sun made the colors vivid and sparkled on the ocean waves and I wore a stylized kimono cover-up over my bikini with a big silk bow thoroughly tied on my back just to untie it in a minute to go swimming in the warm ocean. I was focusing on every movement I was making to make sure I’d remember every detail… just for myself.
I now value comfort and privacy over anything else and this house has become my cozy, luxurious fortress and now while sitting in an airport, my biggest wish is to return home to Casa Santa Barbara.
