Visiting The Amish in Lancaster

September 7, 2014

Each epoch is determined by people, their habits, mode of life, technological development, health and physical condition.

Lancaster, Pennsylvania is home to the largest Amish community in the United States. Amish (ger. Amische) – is a very conservative religious movement, that originated in Europe in the early 17th century, but soon, due to the lack of religious freedom, was been forced to emigrate to the United States. Living in the US, they preserved their mode of living as they had in 17th century: they do not use electricity, do not own cars, men do the work on the fields and women take care of homes.

Families are very important for the Amish and that is the reason why they are very big.

Amish have many taboos, such as intimate connections before marriage, marrying someone outside their commune, drinking alcohol or doing drugs.

I would love to learn more about the Amish community and these pictures are stunning. I love that you take your own photos as well.

My grade school field trips use to be to Lancaster. I don’t remember it being so pretty. All I remember was “they make their own butter.”
