InterContinental Hotel in Geneva

Intercontinental - where to stay in Geneva - travel blog

Geneva was the first city in the world that introduced the concept of modern tourism. It means that Geneva was the first city where visitors came to enjoy its hotels and landscapes. The first tourists who came to the city years ago enjoyed its beautiful surroundings: the mountains, the lakes, thermal springs and the view at Montblanc. This is how the new tradition of tourism began. Since then, many luxurious 5-star hotels, including InterContinental, were built in Geneva.

Even though I chose to spend an active and hype weekend in the city, I decided to stay in a classy hotel that offers services that meet the world’s highest hospitality standards. InterContinental in Geneva is a hotel that meets all demands of international luxurious travelers.

Located in the International Area of Geneva, this hotel is easily accessible from the International Airport and the City Center.

From my very first steps in the hotel, I could immediately feel that its standards are very high.

The hotel has four room categories:

  • Rooms (Standard)
  • Executive Suites
  • Luxury Suites
  • The Residence

This time, my choice was the Executive Suite overlooking Lake Geneva and Montblanc.

Well, I knew that I was already supposed to leave to paraglide at the Mont Saleve, but … the fresh coffee made in a coffee machine in my suite and the complimentary Swiss chocolate made me stay on the sofa and enjoy the view of the lake. That bitter and sweet taste… I closed my eyes and at that moment I thought … Perhaps Sophia Loren was staying in my suite before and enjoyed the view from the same angle. I know she stayed here for seven months before she gave birth to her son.

When I was browsing their site I noticed there was a special floor, called the Residence, so I inquired about a personal tour. The Residence is located on the top floor and is only available for visitors, previously approved by the owner. The price is also not disclosed prior to booking. The last two photos were taken at the Residence. You can see a big bathtub made of a single piece of marble and the tile on the floor inspired by Hermes. Someday, I will be a guest at the Residence…

I enjoyed every moment I spent at the InterContinental Geneva. Their breakfasts are elegant, concierge service is very helpful and the rooms are very cozy. It did feel like my Genevan home for a long weekend.

I have never been disappointed in any of the Intercontinental Hotels we have stayed in. Their quality of service and care for guests have always been great. I did not know about the tourism history of Geneva! Another thing learned today. The pictures are lovely and who wouldn’t want to stay in this hotel? Glad you had an amzaing time.

I like having different options for hotel bookings. Sometimes I’m obliged to make reservations in less than nice hotels, but something I won’t break down on is the bathroom facilities. Hotel Intercontinental is ranked up among the top of hotels that I prefer. And this one doesn’t disappoint! I’m with you about the Residence, that is one swanky room (I’m imagining myself right now luxuriating at that gorgeous tub!).

I am not sure I have ever been at any hotel that has been that luxurious. Considering how much I payed for my regular hotel in Zurich, I am scared to even think how much this must have been. In any case, I am green with envy for your experience and hope to experience
    it at some point myself!

InterContinental is a great hotel brand and one that I have had the pleasure of enjoying in a number of destinations. I have not yet been to the Geneva location, but it looks quite nice. Though I must admit that the bathroom of the Residence kind of creeps me out with the tree roots on the floor coming out like in a horror film and the bathtub that looks suitable for an Indiana Jones human sacrifice. 😉 But all in all, not bad!

When I was in Geneva recently, I stayed in a hostel! A very far cry from a luxury hotel. But the place looks beautiful from your photos. I love old movies, so it would be exciting for me to stay where Sophia Loren stayed. Maybe next time I am in Geneva.

I’ve stayed the Intercon in HK and I’m a regular in Intercontinental Manila.. but such a pity that Intercontinental Manila bid goodbye last December (and it made me cry actually) I’ve got a lot of good memories in there… but then now I’m wishing that a new Intercontinental Manila will be born. I will be one of the happiest client!

It is nice that Intercontinental Hotels have standards that they strictly adhere. Though the fees may be higher, I believe a number of businessmen and even tourists and travelers and even families never mind paying extra premium for a quality service. After all, you go to hotel to relax after some hectic shedules.
